Vyacheslav Volodin, Speaker of the State Duma, has paid a visit to Armenia to meet with his counterpart, National Assembly Speaker Galust Sahakyan and President Serzh Sargsyan.
The parties agreed to develop inter-parliamentary and regional cooperation as part of the interaction between the legislative bodies. “We believe that Armenia is our strategic partner”, stressed Vyacheslav Volodin, adding that “among other things, the trip aims to cement the bilateral ties.” It should be noted that the Russian team included the representatives of the Krasnodar region and the Crimea where large Armenian diasporas reside. It testifies to the vital role of bilateral relations at the regional level. Besides, Galust Sahakyan emphasized the need to engage Russia in resolving the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
Vyacheslav Volodin’s meeting with Serzh Sargsyan was marked by the recommitment to strategic and dynamic relations between the two states. The Speaker displayed his commitment to developing inter-parliamentary cooperation. In his turn, the Armenian President highlighted the importance of the Russian delegation’s visit capable of giving fresh impetus to the countries’ ties. One should also point out that Volodin’s trip to Armenia contributes much to joint integration projects like the Eurasian Economic Community (EAEC or EurAsEC) and the Eurasian Customs Union as well as to bilateral relations. Thus, there is every reason to believe that both Russia and Armenia will more actively engage in inter-parliamentary interaction.
